English clubs should rush for Ruud

The news that Ruud van Nistelrooy could be available this summer for as little as £1million should have plenty of Premier League bosses scrambling to acquire his services.

The Real Madrid striker is currently fighting to be fit for the start of the season after undergoing knee surgery in November but that has not stopped rumours surfacing regarding where he will play next term.

The men from the Bernabeu are believed to be willing to allow the 21-year former Manchester United ace leave for Just 1.25million euros with Spurs set to head the chase for the former Dutch international.

A Madrid source is quoted as saying: “We are still not decided over the situation of some players like van Nistelrooy. At the moment, we have other priorities and they will wait until next week.”

New Real manager Manuel Pellegrini is believed to have the deciding stay over whether van Nistelrooy will stay, but if he is allowed to leave then for a whole host of top-flight clubs he is surely worth taking a gamble on.

Van Nistelrooy could be the signing of the summer for someone in the Premier League with Everton, Blackburn, Fulham, Manchester City and Sunderland all actively looking to recruit a goalscoring forward.

And van Nistelrooy certainly knows how to put the ball in the net. He has netted 63 goals in 93 games for Real, while at Old Trafford he scored 150 times in 219 games including 95 Premier League goals in just 150 appearances.

He is a natural finisher and along with Alan Shearer the best and most prolific the English top flight has ever seen.  True there is a question mark over his fitness and his career is winding down but there should be at least two good seasons left in the former PSV star.

Players with the goalscoring knack don’t come along too often and even though the Dutch veteran will still command a sizeable wage his goals could be invaluable for a team like Spurs or Everton who are looking to progress next season.
