Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has already started his campaign for votes as he aims to be re-elected at the Bernabeu.
Calderon, who resigned as Real president in January after allegations of vote rigging, has revealed without naming names that he has helped to secure the signing of one of the ‘world’s best players’.
Calderon told French radio station RMC: “I can’t give any names.
“What I can say is that one of the best players in the world, thanks to Ramon Calderon and difficult and laborious negotiations that have been going on since last year, is already formally a Real Madrid player.
“Subject obviously to him being able to sign the relevant contract.”
Cristiano Ronaldo was at the centre of a tug-of-war between Real and his current club Manchester United in the close season and rumours are rife the Spanish giants are set to step in with a bid in the region of £75million.
However Calderon’s main election rival and favourite Florentino Perez is yet to make his move with talk of signing Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas or AC Milan superstar Kaka possibly part of his propoganda.
With the ballot in Madrid on June 14 both Calderon and Perez will be eager to win votes by pledging the arrival of several of Europe’s top players and it’s a safe football bet that speculation is only likely to increase as the date edges closer.
